Passenger App Guide
Click below for step by step instructions on how to use the Okotoks Transit App.
Using the Okotoks On-Demand Transit service means sharing space, so it's important that you treat your fellow riders with courtesy and respect. Even the simplest actions can ensure that everyone, including you, has a more positive experience.
- Personal audio devices/cell phones
Please keep the sound at a low volume and your voice down. - Food & Drink
If you are going to eat or drink while using transit, remember to keep it clean and don’t litter. No alcohol is permitted. - Keep doorways clear
In order for people to get on the van, people first need to be able to get off. Before you board, please stand back and allow passengers to exit. - Luggage, sports equipment, large grocery bags, etc.
Large items can be brought onto the vehicle and must be stored in the rear of the vehicle provided space is available. If you have bulky items taking up extra space, please book an extra seat for them. - Smoking
There is no smoking or vaping allowed in the transit van. - Pets/service animals
Domestic animals are permitted on vehicles either on-leash or in a travel kennel and must be under the care and control of the owner.
- Personal audio devices/cell phones
Car Seats
Children 40 lbs (18 kg) or less and under 6 years of age are required to travel in a child seat and will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian. A child over 6yrs old can travel alone but it is extremely important that someone is there to meet the vehicle at pick up and drop off.
One fully-adjustable car seat is provided on each transit vehicle. The car seat must be booked in addition to booking the child’s ride. If a car seat is unavailable, that will be indicated at the time of booking. In this case, the parent/guardian is responsible for bringing their own appropriate car seat with the seat belt locking clip (see image below).
In either instance, it is the parent/guardian’s responsibility to ensure the following:
- Child is properly secured into the seat
- Car seat is correctly installed in the vehicle
- Car seat is positioned correctly (front or rear-facing)
Note that the Town’s new transit vehicles are equipped with universal anchoring systems.

Booster Seats
Health and transportation experts agree that booster seats reduce the risk of transportation-related injury to children. Booster seats are provided on the transit vehicle but it is the parents' responsibility to be aware of the following:
- A child is ready to ride in the vehicle without a booster seat when the vehicle seat belt fits properly. This is typically when a child is 145 cm (4’7”) tall and between 8 and 12 years of age.
- When used alone, seat belts ride high on a child’s belly and neck, and can lead to serious internal injuries in a crash.

Note:
If you’ve booked a ride but aren’t sure if you child meets the height requirements for riding Okotoks Transit without a booster seat, don’t worry, there is a bright yellow marker inside the van to show you how tall your child needs to be.
